Improving Outcomes through High Quality Teaching

The quality of teaching is the single most important in-school factor for improving outcomes and is particularly important for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.  The way that people enter the profession is important and high quality Initial Teacher Training plays a critical role in setting early career teachers up for a successful and fulfilling career. Thames South TSH is a partner of Bromley Schools’ Collegiate as well as the University of Greenwich, who offer outstanding teacher training in London and the South East.

Initial Teacher Training with Bromley Schools’ Collegiate

Bromley Schools’ Collegiate has been providing Initial Teacher Training since 1993 and we welcome applications from those just finishing University as well as those who are career changers. This diversity in our intake is one of the strengths of our programme as we specifically look for candidates that want a career as a teacher and not just to gain Qualified Teacher Status.  Typically, our intake ranges from those in their early 20s through to career changers in their 50s.

We value the range of life experiences and skills that everyone brings and this helps to shape them into effective teachers who put the holistic development of children and young people at the heart of their teaching. We focus our programme on equipping teachers with the knowledge and practical skills that will equip them for a rewarding career as a teacher serving their local community.

To find out more about our Initial Teacher Training programmes and join one of our information sessions, either email the office on administrator@gradteach.uk , visit our website www.bscteach.co.uk or call us on 0208 300 6566.

Assessment Only Route to QTS

We work closely with a wide range of schools to provide an Assessment Only Route to QTS for unqualified teachers, overseas teachers and those within the SEND and Alternative Provision Sector.  Many of our partners use this route to develop valued and experienced staff that want to gain QTS and help to retain talent within their organisations. This is a 3-calendar month route that does not include any training, so applicants must be ready to demonstrate their competence against the Teachers Standards with support from their current employer.

To be eligible for this route you must have the following:

  • At least two years of whole class teaching experience within at least two different schools or settings
  • At least one year of employment in an unqualified teacher role within your current school or setting.
  • Support of your employer to be supported through this route with a workplace mentor.
  • A UK Honours degree or equivalent (UK ENIC formally known as NARIC certificate will need to be supplied for overseas qualifications)
  • GCSE English and Maths at a grade C/4 or better or equivalent
  • For those wanting to qualify in the Primary age range you will also need GCSE Science at a grade C/4 or better or *equivalent

*Please note we do not accept commercial equivalency tests for the GCSE entry requirement.  If this is a potential barrier, please contact us as we do run our own internal equivalency tests for suitable candidates who meet the other entry requirements.

Bespoke solutions for workforce development for schools and MATs

Bromley Schools’ Collegiate welcomes the opportunity to have a discussion with individual Head Teachers or MAT leaders to understand your workforce development needs.  We can provide guidance on how to develop your existing workforce.  This could include looking at your current unqualified teaching staff and advising on your options as to how you could support them to gain QTS or to address gaps in confidence that they have within their current role.

For further information and an initial discussion please either email administrator@gradteach.uk or call 0208 300 6566 to book an appointment.

At the University of Greenwich, we are proud of our heritage of being a centre of excellence for the training of teachers in London and the South East since 1906. We train teachers across all 4 phases, Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Further Education and Skills with first-rate outcomes.
